Planning your Curry & Chaat

Coronavirus outbreak. Across the UK some restrictions on education and student life are being relaxed. It is important to keep up to date with government advice in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, as they have each taken different approaches: more details and up to date information here.

Holding a Curry & Chaat is simple, just get together with your friends, family or colleagues, virtually, or safely in person (following the latest government guidelines) and have a chat over some curry (and chaat)

Your event will help build and strengthen relationships with those around you (which is so important for maintaining good mental health) and is also an easy way to fundraise towards mental health research and a world with good mental health for all.

Curry & Chaat

If you are uncertain about how to organise and prepare your Curry & Chaat, just follow our handy step-by-step guide to a fantastic event!

1. Request your pack

Free fundraising packs are available to order for your Curry & Chaat, so download your pack today!

2. Set the time and place

There is no specific date for you to do your Curry & Chaat, so just choose any date which works for you. You can host your Curry & Chaat at home, at school or university, at work, or even down the local curry house, wherever suits you best! If you want any resources then please email us at [email protected].

3. Spread the word

If you are hosting your event virtually, make sure everyone knows about it so as many people as possible can join in your Zoom call! Use posters, social media and e-mail to invite friends.

Top tip: if someone can't attend, ask them if they would be happy to make a donation instead.

4. Get spicing

Have you got a delicious go-to curry, or are you inspired by our wonderful recipes and want to try something new? Either way, get help from your family and friends (but we won’t tell if you opt for your local takeaway)!

5. Get chaatting

Starting a conversation about mental health can be a little tricky, but remember we all have mental health just as we have physical health. As we are sure you know, talking is good for your mental health, and what better way to do it than tucking in to a delicious curry with your guests, friends and family – online or in person.

You can also offer activities at your event to help raise as much as possible. Here are a few ideas we came up with…

Curry & Chaat quizzes

Organise your guests into teams and charge per team to take part. It doesn't have to be curry themed, although that may give you a chance to show off your knowledge about the perfect curry!

Curry competition

Challenge everyone in your household to make their own curries and vote for the best.

Poppadum challenge

See who can balance the most poppadums on their nose, with the losers each having to donate an extra pound or two!

Hot chilli challenge

Is anyone daring enough to eat a really hot chilli? If so, why doesn't everyone else sponsor them some money to take a bite? However, make sure to have some yoghurt or a lassi nearby for afterwards!

6. Pay in your donation

The quickest and easiest way to pay in your donation is by using our online form.

Alternatively, you can make a donation over the phone by calling the Events Team on 020 7803 1123.

7. Tell us about your event

We'd love to hear all about your event! Get in touch and tell us your event stories using email ([email protected]), Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.
