Connection, Community & Support
- "It allows me to connect with others experiencing the same or similar struggles to me."
- "I use my social media to spread my story as well as learn about others. I have formed a community to where each person can be their own individual without being judged..."
- "It helps me explain what’s going on in my head by seeing other people go through the same/similar things so that I begin to make sense of what’s normal and what’s my illness."
- "Sometimes we can help each other. I even sometimes find pages which give out support which is a huge plus!"
- "Sometimes it’s seeing your experience in other’s. I want people to know they’re not alone in this."
- "It's like a friendly little escape when life is too much!"
Feelings of loneliness
- "Reminds me I'm not alone there’s always someone who can relate to the darkness and uncertainty."
- "It helps me feel connected when I'm feeling alone."
Positivity & Recovery
- "Found it useful for eating disorder recovery and body positivity."
- "Insta is great for encouraging quotes and feeds."
- "It gives me a space for me to be honest about what I am going through and feeling. It gives me a space to represent myself and know that I am putting my self out there, and that others may not feel so alone . It also helps as a place for me to learn, hear other people and educate myself where I wouldn't know to educate myself about those things. Thus easing my depression and anxiety by having knowledge and a place to learn and be safe."
It's about balance
- "The balance is how long we spend on it...how the comparisons and ‘perfect’ images make us feel and whether we remember to have time away from it!"
- "Have to be strong with myself. Not too much time scrolling, unfollow anyone who makes me feel bad about myself."
Why are we doing this?
We know that more and more people are living with poor mental health.
Anyone can experience mental ill health but some people are at greater risk than others. And, we also know that it doesn’t have to be this way.
We need prevention
Mental health problems can be prevented and effectively managed. We need more action and change.
