Walk, run or stroll your way to better mental health for all this November. Take 12,000 steps a day and raise vital funds for the Mental Health Foundation.
As the dark nights and short days are approaching, this challenge is designed to get you moving and feel physically and mentally healthy. It can be harder for us to get outside during the winter months but exercising outdoors in nature may help to prevent or reduce feelings of anger, tiredness and sadness.
You can complete your steps however you like, whether it’s out on a daily walk, on your commute, at the gym or even walking around your house! There are lots of apps you can use to track your miles, such as MyFitnessPal, or you could use a smartwatch or see the ‘Health’ app on your phone.
This challenge takes place on Facebook, where you can join the supportive 12,000 Steps a Day in November Challenge Facebook group and set up a Facebook fundraising page. It is free to take part in this challenge but we recommend setting a fundraising target of £100. We are here to help you all the way with fundraising tips and advice throughout the challenge and you’ll have the support of the Facebook group to keep you motivated too!
Taking part in this challenge will allow you to look after your own well-being, whilst raising vital funds for the Mental Health Foundation.
Joining as part of a team with your company?
Sign up to complete the 12,000 steps a day challenge with your work colleagues! We still recommend setting a target of 12,000 steps a day, with a £100 fundraising target per person, but combining them into the same fundraising team for an even bigger overall target. You can still join our Facebook group to receive support and encouragement along the way, but we would recommend setting up a JustGiving page rather than a Facebook fundraiser.
You can complete your steps on your own or get together for a lunchtime walk as a team, start a steps challenge leader board to bring out the competitive side, stand and walk on the spot at your desk, whatever works for you!
