Website Accessibility Guidelines

Mental Health Foundation

How accessible is the Mental Health Foundation website?

We aim to make our website easy to use and understand. This means you should be able to:

  • Change colours, contrast levels and fonts using your browser or device settings
  • Zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • Navigate most of the website using a keyboard or speech recognition software
  • Listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including common screen readers such as NVDA, JAWS and VoiceOver)
  • Access content that is written in clear, plain language wherever possible
  • See text alternatives for meaningful non-text content such as images and video
  • See lists and headings which are in an ordered sequence and are marked-up correctly
  • Navigate the website in a predictable way
  • Get hints and prompts if you make a mistake when you’re navigating the site
  • Navigate the site using most browsers

Compliance status

We aim for the Mental Health Foundation website (www.mentalhealth.org.uk) to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, at AA level.

We know that some parts of the website are not fully accessible yet. We are working to identify and address these accessibility issues as part of our ongoing website improvements.

Non-accessible content

Some content on this website may not fully meet accessibility standards. These include:

  • Older PDF documents that have not been fully structured for screen readers
  • Some third party tools or 'widgets' that are not fully controllable by keyboard
  • Some heading structure and alternative text for system images
  • Form controls such as those used in donations, email newsletter sign-ups and event registrations
  • Some content areas don’t contrast sufficiently with their surroundings. Windows High Contrast Mode is not currently supported
  • There are some links/hypertext that don’t convey the purpose of the link clearly
  • Some iframes on the site don’t have a descriptive title for assistive technology
  • Navigation and focus management has several issues
  • There are some videos that are missing audio descriptions

Our annual accessibility audit of www.mentalhealth.org.uk was conducted in April 2026. A round of improvements to the website will be implemented shortly afterwards. Issues are reviewed as we update and add new content and functionality. Accessibility improvements are prioritised where possible.

Enforcement procedure

The Mental Health Foundation is a charity and is not covered by the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

However, accessibility is very important to us, and we endeavour to meet best practice standards in line with the Equality Act 2010, which requires organisations to make reasonable adjustments for disabled people.
