Royal statement on mental health awareness: Mental Health Foundation flash response
Today the Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry, along with Lady Gaga, Dame Jessica Ennis, Dame Judi Dench and our own ambassador David Harewood took part in #MentalHealthMinute - a radio moment broadcast on over 300 radio stations across the UK.
Responding, Isabella Goldie, Director of the Mental Health Foundation, said:
"The Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry and a host of celebrities have today made an extraordinary intervention during Mental health Awareness Week in what we hope will be seen as a historic moment.
"Princess Diana was instrumental in tackling stigma around HIV. Today, the princes are following in their mother's footsteps and doing the same for mental health.
"Two thirds of people say they have experienced a mental health problem over their lifetime. It can affect anyone, including members of the Royal Family, celebrities or members of the public. Yet we can still find it so hard to talk about.
"But together with Lady Gaga, Dame Judi Dench, Dame Jessica-Ennis Hill and our own Mental Health Foundation ambassador David Harewood – the princes are helping the conversation to happen. We don’t need to be silent."
The Mental Health Foundation has been running Mental Health Awareness Week since 2001.
