Senior Research Officer

The Mental Health Foundation is recruiting for a Senior Research Officer to support our Research Team.  This is fixed term part-time role for 4 days per week for one year.

Starting salary £35,143 rising to £39,000

This exciting role will primarily be to project manage the evaluation of a Scottish Government funded project ‘Bridging the Gap’. The project aims to address the low uptake in cancer screening in those with mental health conditions and evaluate potential interventions to address this low uptake.

What does the role involve?

  • Day-to-day management and delivery of the Bridging the Gap study
  • Ensuring all fieldwork is conducted in a timely and ethical manner
  • Leading the analysis of quantitative and qualitative data and report writing
  • Assisting in dissemination the final evaluation including written reports, academic publications, and presentations to achieve policy and practice change

What skills, knowledge and experience are we looking for?

  • Ability to design and lead qualitative and mixed methods research studies (Essential)
  • Outstanding organisational skills including the ability to use initiative, to prioritise workload and work under pressure (Essential)
  • Knowledge and understanding of public mental health including impact trauma and mental health diagnosis on cancer screening uptake (Desirable)

Employment benefits

Pension (non-contributory)

The Foundation considers it important to encourage staff to save for their retirement and as such provides staff with an 8% contribution as part of auto-enrolment from 3 months service. After successful completion of the probationary period this increases to 10%, all non-contributory.

Employee Assistance Service

At times staff may face and need help with a variety of issues throughout their lives and as part of the commitment to staff members the Foundation provides an independent and confidential information, support and counselling telephone service. Wellbeing Days

Staff may take up to 3 days per every leave year for their personal wellbeing and mental health needs. These days must be taken during the leave year and cannot be carried over.

Annual leave

Staff receive 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays, pro rata when part-time, rising to 26 days after 3 years’ service and 27 days after 5 years’ service. The additional annual leave is awarded on 1 April following the relevant work anniversary. The leave year runs from 1 April to 31 March.

Christmas leave

Staff receive an additional 3 days leave at Christmas when the office closes between Christmas Day and re-opens after New Year’s Day. This is in addition to the annual leave entitlement.

Life Assurance Scheme

Staff receive death in service life cover at four times their annual salary.

Flexible working

The right to request flexible working is available to all staff. There are a number of different flexible working arrangements available which can be arranged by mutual consent.

Season ticket loan

Interest free loans are available to purchase season tickets for the journey between home and work. Available after successful completion of probationary period.

Cycle to Work Scheme

The Cycle to Work scheme is a UK Government tax exemption initiative introduced to promote healthier journeys to work and to reduce environmental pollution. Staff will be able to apply for a loan to purchase a bicycle of a value of up to £1,111 tax free. Available after successful completion of probationary period.
