Mainstreaming Mental Health

We worked with local authorities in Glasgow, Ayrshire and Highland to develop and action a learning programme to engage local authority and community planning staff to develop their capacity to promote mental health and encourage recovery.

Local Authorities in Scotland have obligations in law both to promote mental health and to support those with mental health problems to access services like employment, education and leisure. We worked with departments such as housing, social work, education, community education, youth work and leisure services to connect those departments' work to mental health, and enable participants to work out where mental health can fit into their outcomes frameworks and activities.

Departments such as environmental health and anti-social behaviour teams often come across people who are either experiencing distress or have mental health problems, and work with these departments really helps people to support those people they meet.
