Support for those bereaved by suicide

Location: Scotland

This content mentions suicide or suicidal thoughts. Please read with care. There are details of where to find help at the bottom of this page.

Providing support for people bereaved by suicide is a key objective of the Scotland’s Suicide Prevention Action Plan ‘Every Life Matters’ (2018).

Between July and October 2019, we carried out an exploratory research study interviewing both organisations that supported those bereaved by suicide, and those bereaved by suicide themselves.

This report details our findings: the research clearly highlights the lack of equity in access to support services for those bereaved by suicide in Scotland. It calls for a holistic, Scotland-wide approach to supporting people bereaved by suicide.
