Mental Health Foundation welcomes launch of Thrive LDN
Today the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan launches Thrive LDN, a city-wide movement to improve the mental health of all Londoners.
Jenny Edwards CBE, Chief Executive of the Mental Health Foundation said:
“For too long not enough has been done to prevent the rise in people experiencing mental health problems. We have overlooked the value of prevention and early intervention, and the need to invest in our communities. Major cities around the world like London and New York are coming together and leading the way in changing this.
“The Foundation has supported Thrive LDN since its inception, we’re delighted to see it launch and ignite a conversation with Londoners about improving mental health across the city.
“To support boroughs with the highest risk of mental health problems, we will be arranging a series of ‘Thrive LDN borough Workshops’. These events will bring together residents including mental health service users, carers and the organisations that support them.
“In addition, we are working to develop a series of pilot programmes on three estates in Lambeth, Southwark and Barking and Dagenham. We’re excited to play our part in building a movement that helps the city to ‘thrive’ by listening to Londoners, this is a movement we hope to see spread across the UK.”
The first of the Mental Health Foundation’s workshops takes place in Southwark on July 18th, followed by similar events in Tower Hamlets and Barking and Dagenham later in the month.
Inspired by a similar movement in New York, Thrive LDN will encourage better working between boroughs, health services, police, transport and voluntary sectors when dealing with people with mental health issues.
The Mayor has joined forces with over 200 experts, residents, voluntary, public and private organisations, clinicians and academics to spearhead a city-wide campaign that will support Londoners to lead healthier, happier lives.
