At 1,085 metres (3,560 feet), Snowdon is the UK’s highest mountain outside of Scotland. A popular summit trek by in daylight, it forms a real challenge by night and is a perfect fundraising opportunity.
The route up the Llanberis Path starts steep, affording good views in the fading light before easing up gradually as you move into the darkness of night. After the Halfway House, the gradient becomes steeper in places, but you’re then not far off the summit and the achievement of climbing around 900 metres in altitude.
Trekking up the mountain at night is a different experience than during the day: your senses grow used to the darkness, and you can enjoy the silence and the remoteness of this mythical mountain, as well as the clear views of the starry night sky.
The sky starts to lighten on the way down, and you are greeted by wonderful views over the Menai Strait towards Anglesey. You'll be amazed to see what you climbed in the dark in the morning light!
