Response to the Who benefits? The benefits assessment and death of Ms DE report
Isabella Goldie, Head of Scottish Programmes at the Mental Health Foundation responds to the Who benefits? The benefits assessment and death of Ms DE report, from the Mental Welfare Commission for Scotland:
"We welcome this report and its unprecedented investigation into suicide and the impact of Work Capability Assessments, which evidences many concerns we have persistently raised.
"With more than one in 10 Registered Medical Officers saying a patient had attempted suicide as a result of assessments, evidently the need for radical change in this process has never been clearer.
"The very concerning issues contained in the report should be a catalyst for significant change, and we call on the government to act on the report's recommendations if they are to truly focus on protecting those most vulnerable in our society."
