Global Make Some Noise Day

28 September 2016

Make Some Noise Day takes place on Friday 7 October 2016, and we are delighted that this year it will be supporting the Foundation’s work to improve children’s mental health and wellbeing.

Make Some Noise is the official in-house charity of Global, the media and entertainment group. On the day Global group’s radio stations - Capital Xtra, Capital FM, Gold, Radio X, Smooth, LBC, Classic FM and Heart – will be raising funds to support children and young people and their families across Great Britain. With people up and down the country getting involved and joining the noise!

Funds raised for the Mental Health Foundation will support our ‘Teenage Mental Health: Peer Support in Schools’ project.

“Since 2004, it’s been known that 10% of children aged 5-15 have a diagnosable mental disorder. That’s about 3 in every class”

Peer support give children and young people the confidence and tools to discuss mental health, and ensure that they are on hand to support friends and fellow school pupils in times of need. Following a successful pilot, the Foundation is planning on expanding the project to 10 secondary schools, where Year 12 students will be equipped and trained to support Year 7 students in discussing mental health.

Mark Rowland, Director of Fundraising and Communications at the Mental Health Foundation said:

'We are delighted to be on the charity partners for Global Make Some Noise.  We salute Global for wanting to raise awareness of mental health problems - especially for young people - and we will do all we can with the money raised to ensure young people are better equipped to protect and sustain their mental health.'
