We have worked on several connecting projects over the past few years. We believe connecting people with learning disabilities into their communities is an essential and fundamental way of improving their quality of life and enables people to lead more independent lives.
We know starting connecting is not always easy. People often need expert, ongoing support to make lasting connections.
Through the learning from our work we have realised the need for services and their staff to be able to connect with each other to share their expertise to overcome barriers to connecting people, as well as to develop their services so they meet the needs of those who use them.
What is 'connecting'?
Our research has shown that people with the highest support needs rarely get the right help to make strong, enduring relationships in their local communities.
Our work in connecting people
Connecting People is a programme of work based on the approach that people who need support in their daily lives are more likely to be safe and fulfilled if they are helped to build strong and meaningful relationships in their community.
