Programme Manager (Children, Families and Young People)

Salary: starting salary £40,000 rising to £46,000 (pro-rata if part-time)

This is exciting and senior new post is based in Glasgow and will play a key role in developing and leading our programmes in Scotland. Reporting to the Associate Director and working closely with the Senior Team, you will manage a dynamic team of people who are delivering a range of programmes.  A key responsibility of the role is to work with staff to develop existing programmes, with a focus on sustainability and scale, and identify opportunities for new programme areas.

We are open to consider flexible working and we are currently working on a proposal, based on staff consultation, about how a return to the office, planned for September, could look like. Job description

Strategic
• To develop and manage our national portfolio of programmes of work with communities, settings and groups across the life course (early years, families and young people).
• To support the Associate Director to identify opportunities for new areas of work and to develop and submit proposals of funding that serve MHF's mission.
• To support the Associate Director to translate MHF's overall strategy and operational plan into impactful programmes of work.
• Help to scale MHF projects and approaches to ensure that greater numbers of people benefit from MHF's work in line with our 5-year strategy.  
• To ensure that best practice in evidence informed/based working is adhered to within individual projects from planning and development through to delivery, evaluation and dissemination.
 
Managerial 
• Build, manage and support a team of programme staff Including regular 1:1 supervision, coaching, appraisal, team meetings/building, training and development.
• To take responsibility for budgeting and working with the Finance team and Associate Director 
• Build and maintain excellent and collegiate working relationships across the UK Foundation.
• Be a positive member of the Scotland / Northern Ireland Management team
 
Operational
• To deliver the agreed outcomes in the departments operational plan and contribute to the annual strategic planning processes.
• To ensure effective project management within agreed work programme areas.
• To ensure that Foundation policies and processes are followed in relation to project management, including budget management.
 
• To ensure that MHF monitoring requirements and funder reporting requirements are met and projects within your area of responsibility are delivered on time, to budget with maximum impact. 
 
Communication
• To ensure colleagues and senior managers are kept up to date with progress and developments including sharing best practice and learning across departmental boundaries. 
• To act as a positive ambassador for the Foundation in all opportunities, including through presentations, teaching, media engagements and partnerships.
• To work with external affairs colleagues to help tell a persuasive story of the development and delivery of projects for the general public, media and supporters in a variety of media. 
• To represent the Foundation at events, conferences and within external working groups and coalitions.
 
General
• To promote and support the achievement of the Foundation’s mission, goals and values and act as a positive ambassador for the Foundation in all opportunities. 
• To maintain a high standard of probity in professional, personnel and financial matters, maintaining good relations with colleagues and external partners and to act in accordance with the foundation’s Code of Conduct and Dignity at Work policy.
• To uphold and promote the Foundation’s commitment to equality and diversity and the value of lived experience.
• To have due regard to safeguarding and health and safety issues and to provide leadership on these issues within agreed work programmes.
• To act on behalf of the Associate Director when they are unavailable and within agreed delegated authority.
• To undertake any other duties as may reasonably be required.

Pension

We consider it important to encourage people to save for their retirement and therefore we provide staff (after successful completion of a probation period) with a 10% pension contribution paid into an Age on Personal Pension. Contributions can be invested in a variety of funds according to your investment preference, or alternatively a default fund is available. Staff will also receive death in service life cover at four times salary.

Annual leave

Staff receive 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays.

Maternity/parental leave

Enhanced maternity/parenthood leave entitlements are in place, including extended maternity leave and benefits. Available after a qualifying period.

Flexible working/work life balance

The right to request flexible working is available to all employees. There are a number of different flexible working arrangements available throughout the organisation, which can be arranged by mutual consent.

Sickness/absence

We are required to make statutory sickness payments (SSP) where staff qualify. We also have our own sick pay scheme, including full pay for a period subject to certain conditions.

Employee Assistance Service

At times staff members may face and need help with a variety of issues throughout their lives. As part of our commitment to staff members we provide a 24/7 independent and confidential counselling and information telephone service, free of charge. Support is available on a range of issues including legal, financial, emotional, health issues and work-related concerns.

Season ticket loan

Interest free loans are available to purchase season tickets for the journey between home and work.

Cycle to Work Scheme

The Cycle to Work scheme is a UK Government tax exemption initiative introduced in the Finance Act 1999 to promote healthier journeys to work and to reduce environmental pollution. It allows employers to loan cycles and cyclists' safety equipment to employees as a tax-free benefit.

Through the scheme, employees will be able to purchase a bike of a value of up to £1,111, repaid over 18 months through deductions from your gross monthly salary. The loan will be interest free and the benefit will be offered after successful completion of the probationary period.
