Between 600,000 and 725,000 people in the UK are affected by an eating disorder. Eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa are serious mental health problems.
Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT)
During ECT, a brief electrical stimulus is given to the brain via electrodes placed on the temples. The electrical charge lasts between one and four seconds, and causes an epileptic-like seizure.
