Our Mental Capacity Team

Our Mental Capacity team is made up of the foremost expert consultants and trainers in the field. 

Paul Gantley OBE

The team is led by Paul, who until March 2011 was employed by the Department of Health as the Mental Capacity Act Implementation Manager. Paul has over thirty years’ experience working as a senior practitioner in health and social care services as well as working in central government.

Toby Williamson

Toby is Head of Development & Later Life at the Mental Health Foundation and has over 20 years’ experience working in the fields of mental health and dementia, across the private, public and voluntary sectors. Toby was Co-Chair of the Making Decisions Alliance, which successfully campaigned in support of the Mental Capacity Act and spent 18 months seconded to the Ministry of Justice as Stakeholder and Communications Manager for the Mental Capacity Act Implementation Programme.

Alison Giraud-Saunders

Alison was Co-Director of the Foundation for People with Learning Disabilities and has many years of experience in the field of learning disabilities, having worked in senior commissioning, consultancy and service development roles. She was recently involved in developing mental capacity guidance for family carers of people with learning disabilities.

Paul Swift

Paul is an independent research and evaluation consultant who was the Senior Research Fellow at the Foundation for People with Learning Disabilities. He has been involved in a number of mental capacity research and service improvements projects, and recently completed a comprehensive evaluation of how well the Act had been implementation by a number of local health and social care services.
