The History of Mental Health Awareness Week
Since our first Mental Health Awareness Week in 2000, we've pushed topics like as loneliness, anger, fear, exercise, alcohol and friendship into the public sphere.
The topic of Mental Health Awareness Week 2013 was 'Let's Get Physical'. We promoted the benefits of physical activity for mental wellbeing.
'Doing Good' was the focus of 2012's Mental Health Awareness Week.
In 2011, we raised awareness of how sleep impacts on our mental health.
In 2010, the topic of Mental Health Awareness Week was Loneliness and Mental Health.
In 2009, we raised awareness about the impact fear and anxiety has on our lives.
In 2008, we looked at problem anger and mental health.
In 2007 we raised awareness about the importance of friendship and its positive impact on mental health.
In 2006 we lauched a report focusing on the powerful links between alcohol and mental health, and looked at why people drink alcohol.
To mark Mental Health Awareness Week 2005, we launched a year-long campaign to raise awareness about the effectiveness of exercise.
For Mental Health Awareness Week 2004 we carried out a survey to find out how the UK population copes with low mood and what they do to beat it.
