David Crepaz Keay, Head of Empowerment and Social Inclusion:
"This is the year that Wales leapfrogs England as it implements some of the most progressive mental health legislation in Europe. The Mental Health (Wales) Measure means (among other things) that anyone using specialist mental health services will be entitled to have a care plan that addresses all areas of their life, rather than focussing on treatment.
This fits very well with the Foundation’s self-management and peer support. Our self-management is based on goal setting and problem solving and reinforced by peer support. So far we’ve trained over 600 people across Wales and have peer support groups running across the country. We are now researching the longer term impact of self-management and peer support and will produce or findings later in the year.
In the meantime, we are now working on guidance to help people take there self-management goals and translate them into the new style Welsh care plans."
