Mental Health Foundation welcomes support for workers

24 August 2009

The Mental Health Foundation has welcomed the Department for Work and Pensions' announcement of extra support for people experiencing mental health problems at work.

Chief Executive Andrew McCulloch said:

“This sort of intervention is particularly important at a time of recession when job insecurity and job losses have led to increased stress. Investing in mental health makes sense not only in health terms but also economically and socially.

“But it’s not just about supporting people who become unwell at work. It’s about creating mentally healthy workplaces in which all staff can flourish.  Keeping stress levels down and promoting a good work-life balance allows everyone to get on with their job more effectively and reduces the chances of people developing mental health problems in the first place.”
