The Mental Health Foundation has appointed Dr Eva Cyhlarova as its new Head of Research. Eva will oversee the five strong team at the charity’s London headquarters as well as advise on research programmes being carried out in its Glasgow and Newport offices.”
Educated at the University of Oxford, Eva went on to work in Psychology and Physiology before specialising in mental health and disability. More recently Eva worked as a research scientist in a private sector medical communications agency.
Eva Cyhlarova said:
“Sadly, research is sometimes left to sit on the bookshelf but the Foundation is known for using the research it does to improve frontline services, influence policy and raise awareness of an issue in the media. I am excited to be joining the Foundation, an independent and influential charity. I hope that my contribution will lead to some ground-breaking pieces of mental health research.”
Research Mental Health initiative launches
The Mental Health Foundation, in partnership with the Institute of Psychiatry is calling for more in investment in mental health research. Currently, around £74 million a year is spent on researching mental illness but Research Mental Health wants to see this figure reach £200 million a year within the next five years.
Backed by leading scientists and public figures including Alastair Campbell, Tracey Emin, Stephen Fry, Melanie C, Jo Brand and Mercury award winner Speech Debelle, it calls upon the Government, the National Health Service, funding bodies, research institutions, the pharmaceutical industry and the third sector to commit to making mental health research a joint priority.
