News Release: 13 February 2008
Be one of 14,000 runners to take part in this year’s Edinburgh Marathon on Sunday 25 May and raise money for the Mental Health Foundation at the same time. The charity, which has been going since 1949, helps people with mental health problems and their families.
If running the entire 26-mile run on your own sounds too gruelling, why not rope in your friends and enter the Hairy Haggis relay as a team? The length of marathon can be split between four runners.
Andrew McCulloch, the charity’s Chief Executive, said:
“Almost everybody knows at least one person who has been affected by a mental illness of some sort, such as postnatal depression, dementia or schizophrenia. By running the Edinburgh Marathon for the Mental Health Foundation, you’ll give us the financial support that we need to continue helping people who experience mental health problems and their families.”
Participants are asked to raise a minimum of £500 in sponsorship. The charity will provide tips on how to raise the money as well as training advice. For more information email events@mhf.org.uk or visit www.mentalhealth.org.uk/challenges
