Get fit for 2007. Trek Peru for charity!

News Release, 03 January 2007

Is your new year’s resolution to get fit for 2007? A national charity has the answer. The Mental Health Foundation is calling on men and women across the UK to fasten up their hiking boots and take a trek through Peru in October 2007 to raise money for the charity.

The ten-day journey, including five days trekking through green valleys, lakes and high mountain passes, will begin in the historic city of Cusco and end in Machu Picchu – one of the world’s most famous archaeological finds. Anyone can take part and a personal training plan will be provided to help you get into shape.

Leigh Winter from Staffordshire took part in the 2006 trek. She raised over £2000 for the charity and says:

“Trekking through Peru was themost amazing, fantastic experience of my life. The organisation of the trip and support from the Mental Health Foundation were incredible – the money I raised went to a well-deserved cause. The best part of the trip was the first night, seeing the milky-way and a clear sky filled with stars is something I’ll never forget.”

Andrew Moffatt, Director of Fundraising at the Mental Health Foundation says:

“Exercise is an excellent way to look after your physical and mental health. This challenge is for anyone wishing to get fit for 2007 or who has a love of history and has a passion for the outdoors. All money raised will go towards helping the 1 in 4 people who suffer a mental health problem each year, their family and friends.”

The ten-day trip takes place from 6 – 15 October 2007. Participants are required to pay a registration fee of £349 and raise a minimum of £2,650 in sponsorship money. All travel, accommodation, refreshments, guides and medical support are included.
