News Release, 6 March 2006
G4 singer, Ben Thapa, is running the London Marathon to raise money for the Mental Health Foundation, which helps people to survive, recover from and prevent mental health problems. Ben will join 40,000 other runners on Sunday 23 April for the world famous 26.2 mile run through the capital.
Ben, who shot to fame after G4 reached the final of the TV show, X-Factor, in 2004, said:
“For me, the London Marathon is the ultimate mental and physical test and the opportunity to tie in this great challenge with the chance to raise money for charity is one that really excites me.
“For as long as I can remember, mental illness has been prevalent within my family. The chance to run in the London Marathon for the Mental Health Foundation gives me the opportunity to give something back to the people I care about. It is a charity that lies close to my heart.”
Andrew McCulloch, Chief Executive of the Mental Health Foundation said:
“1 in 4 people experience a mental health problem at some point in their lives. By running the marathon for the Mental Health Foundation, Ben, along with 70 other people from around the UK, are helping to raise money for people with mental health problems, their family and friends.”
According to research by the charity, physical exercise is one of the best ways to look after and improve your mental health.
