Trek through Peru for the Mental Health Foundation

News Release, 4 January 2006

The Mental Health Foundation is hoping that walkers are going to put their best foot forward and take part in a trek through Peru in September 2006 to raise money for the charity, which helps people to survive, recover from and prevent mental health problems.

On their five-day trek, participants will be surrounded by ancient Peruvian culture and encounter the tropical Andean rainforests, the snow-capped mountain ranges of the Andes and Machu Picchu - one of the world’s most famous archaeological finds.

Participants do not need to be super fit to take part and will receive a training plan to help them get into shape prior to the trek. The charity will also be on hand to provide fundraising hints and tips.

Andrew Moffatt, Director of Fundraising at the Mental Health Foundation said:

“This is a trek for those with a love of landscape and a passion for history. Those who take part will see a beautiful part of the world. The work of the Mental Health Foundation makes a big difference to the 1 in 4 people who experience mental health problems each year, and their family and friends. Those who take part in the trek will be raising money to help this work continue.”

Including travel and leisure time in Peru, the trip runs from 14 - 23 September 2006. Trekkers are asked to pay a registration fee of £349 and raise a minimum of £2,650 in sponsorship. Flights, accommodation, camping equipment, meals, guides and medical support are all included.
