News Release, 25 April 2005
The Mental Health Foundation today launched an online survey to find out how people in the UK really feel about summer.
Most people would agree that we feel happier during the summer season - or do we? What is it exactly that makes us feel good? Do we see more of our friends? Enjoy eating and drinking al fresco, and spend more time outdoors? Or is rush hour heat too much to bear, and hayfever a nuisance?
The charity wants to know how lifestyle changes during the summer months affect our mood. Do the extra hours of sunlight mean we work fewer hours? Do we exercise more, or are we tempted to bask in the sunshine in the nearest beer garden?
Dr Andrew McCulloch, Chief Executive of the Mental Health Foundation says,
“We know that the amount of light we are exposed to can have an impact on our mental health, but we also want to know what else it is about summer that makes people feel different. We may find out that a lot of what makes us feel happier at this time of year can be practised all year round.”
This survey is now closed.
