News Release, 24 January 2004
Have you ever experienced mild or moderate depression? If so, the Mental Health Foundation wants to hear from you. This year the Foundation’s annual Mental Health Action Week (27 March – 2 April) aims to raise awareness about the effectiveness of exercise in treating mild to moderate depression.
The charity has launched an online survey, and is interested in hearing about people’s experiences and opinions about the treatments they may have tried, when experiencing mild to moderate depression. The responses will form the basis of a report, which will be published during Mental Health Action Week on Tuesday 29 March 2005. To take part in the survey, visit http://www.mentalhealth.org.uk/exerciseanddepression by 27 February 2005.
Dr Andrew McCulloch, Chief Executive of the Mental Health Foundation said:
“When people with mild to moderate depression seek help from their GP, many end up taking anti-depressants, whilst others may get help through counselling. However, few people are aware that exercise is also an option. We are keen to learn what people’s experiences have been of the treatments made available to them.”
