Letter sent to The Sun

4 June 2007

Dear Editor,

It is such a shame that The Sun doesn’t support the proposed mental health tests in schools (Feelings quiz for 4-year-olds, 4 June).

It isn’t a miserable idea. Kids will get sad anyway - cases of depression among children in Britain have risen by 70 per cent over the last 25 years. Simple tests would help identify problems early when care and treatment could really make a difference.

Teachers are already under pressure to see to children’s welfare. A proper system might actually help them!

Yours sincerely

Andrew McCulloch
