Dear Sir,
The account of the young man who committed suicide (Sentenced to death?, 2 August) highlights the sad truth that community based services often fail to provide people with mental health problems the support they so desperately need.
Despite the efforts that have been put into developing community based services across the country, they are often not adequate. Community based support is more than just about being on the books and receiving a visit once a fortnight from a mental health professional. People with mental health problems need humans to talk to on a regular basis; they need emotional and practical support. Patients should not be left to cope on their own.
