Personal Stories

 

Some of these stories describe the personal experiences of people who have helped us in our work. Others are stories submitted by users of this website.

 

There are a variety of stories, including experiences of different mental health problems and strategies for surviving mental distress.

 
 
Alan's story. After spending his entire life devoted to the care of his severely disturbed mother - all the while believing that her condition was normal, Alan has now finally found an escape.
 
Alan D's story. An account of someone who got his work life balance wrong and nearly committed suicide as a result.

 

Bea Thompson's story. The benefits of exercise referral therapy.


Charles' story. Still trying to find a balance....a centre in his life.

Laura's story. Consumed by severe post-natal depression and anxiety, Laura's social drinking habit escalated into 24-hour drinking. This is her story about her experiences with alcohol and mental health. 


Lynn Thomas's story. Recently diagnosed with bi-polar disorder, Lynn has written a poem which he hopes reflects and expresses the difficulties he has with his 'highs' and 'lows'.


Paul's Story. Paul's journey includes making an important piece of Disability Discrimination Act employment case law with the assistance of the Disability Rights Commission in the Employment Appeal Tribunal.

Rebecca's story. Living with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.


Rosemarie's story. Diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder and bipolar, Rosemarie has learnt to live with it and control it.
