Our Chief Executive, Dr Andrew McCulloch, has more than thirty years’ senior experience in health policy and research.

Our Chief Executive, Dr Andrew McCulloch, has more than thirty years’ senior experience in health policy and research.

Andrew took up his role at the Foundation in 2002, leading the corporate management of the organisation, and advising the Trustees on the strategic direction of the Foundation and ensuring delivery of its plans.

He represents the organisation, its values and its ideas internationally, nationally and regionally through policy, media and public speaking work.

Before his appointment, Andrew was Director of Policy at The Sainsbury Centre for Mental Health for six years, where he established a reputation as a leading authority on mental health policy. He was also a senior civil servant in the Department of Health for 16 years and was responsible for mental health and learning disability policy from 1992 to 1996.

He has spoken and published widely on mental health issues, chaired and served on a number of national advisory committees and has been a mental health adviser to a number of national and international agencies.

Andrew holds a PhD in the Psychology of Old Age from the University of Southampton and is Co-Chair of the Future Vision Coalition.

His previous experience also includes being a school governor, the non-executive Director of an NHS Trust, and the Chair of Mental Health Media, a charity dedicated to giving people with mental health problems and learning disabilities a voice.

In 2011, Andrew received the President’s Medal from the Royal College of Psychiatrists to honour his career contribution to mental health.
