Spotlight on Children and Young People

Two young people in autumn

Children and young people are a much neglected group when it comes to mental health issues.

Bright Futures, our landmark national inquiry, listened to hundreds of young people about the factors affecting their mental health and emotional development.

We continue to listen to young people and are calling on health and education professionals and policymakers, to improve the lives of young people whether they are in crisis, homeless, young offenders or caring for parents with a mental health problem.

Most recently we have heard from young people - and adults - that when a parent or carer is compulsorily admitted to hospital, family members often feel frightened, overwhelmed and disempowered.

We are investigating how these families are supported to stay together. Our findings will demonstrate the impact of hospital admission on all the family and we will be working with professionals to provide the right support.
