The Mental Health Foundation in Scotland

The Scottish office of the Mental Health Foundation works on mental health issues in their Scottish context. We seek to influence policy and develop services specific to Scotland.

We also look at the issues affecting people’s mental health across the UK and ask:

  • What do they mean for the way we live in Scotland?

  • What do they mean for the way that people with mental health problems are supported in Scotland?

Why is Scotland different?

In 1999, when the The Scottish Government was established as the devolved government for Scotland, certain powers were transferred from the UK parliament to the new Scottish parliament.

Since devolution, policies concerning health and social inclusion in Scotland have been among those set by the Scottish Government.

Some of Scotland’s health policies are different from those in the rest of the UK and health services are also structured differently, particularly at local level.

We work on mental health issues in their Scottish context. We seek to influence policy and develop services specific to Scotland.
