Meet the team at the Mental Health Foundation

The Mental Health Foundation has 60 staff members who work in four directorates. Members of the senior management team lead each directorate. Our senior managers work with our Chief Executive and trustees to ensure the organisation is fulfilling its charitable aims.

Chief Executive

 

Dr Andrew McCulloch has been Chief Executive of the Mental Health Foundation since October 2002, following six years as Director of Policy at the Sainsbury Centre for Mental Health.

 

He was responsible for mental health and learning disabilities policy at the Department of Health from 1992 to 1996 during his 16 years as a senior civil servant.

 

Andrew has spoken and published widely on mental health issues and has been described as one of the world's leading authorities on mental health policy. His PhD study related to psycho-social adjustment to old age. Andrew’s other experience has included being the Chair of Mental Health Media.

Finance Director

 

Tony has been Finance Director of the Foundation since 2004.

 

Prior to this he was Finance Director of various commercial organisations in the UK and the United States and worked for some years in merchant banking in mergers and acquisitions and international economic policy advice.

 

He qualified as a chartered accountant with Price Waterhouse. Tony is

also a  Trustee and Honorary Treasurer of the Lin Berwick Trust, a charity providing holiday accommodation for people with profound disabilities, their families and carers.

Director of Mental Health Programmes

 

Kathryn Hill has been Director of Mental Health Programmes at the  Foundation since January 2006.

 

Kathryn has responsibility for our Mental health programmes: Research, Policy, Service Improvement and Workforce Development, Patient and Public Involvement and for our work in Scotland.

 

Prior to this, Kathryn was Head of Safer Practice/Mental Health Lead at the National Patient Safety Agency. She has a long history of working in mental health services, most recently as an NHS Mental Health Trust Service Director. Kathryn has also been a Research Fellow with the Institute for Applied Health and Social Policy, King’s College London, and has published widely, most recently co-editing Mental Health Today, published by Pavilion.

Director of Communications and Fundraising

 

Celia Richardson is Director of Communications and Fundraising. She has been at the Foundation since July 2002.

 

Celia trained as a journalist and has spent the last 12 years in communications, campaigns and fundraising roles in not-for-profit organisations including the Refugee Council, the Royal National Institute for Deaf People, and an urban regeneration agency. For a short time she ran a busy press office in Kigali, Rwanda.

 

Her other experience includes three years’ co-chairing the campaigns group of the Mental Health Alliance. Celia has written for a wide range of publications, from national newspapers to community magazines, and is a regular spokesperson for the Foundation in broadcast media.

Co-director, Foundation for People with Learning Disabilities

 

Alison Giraud-Saunders joined the Foundation from the Institute for Applied Health and Social Policy at King’s College London. 

 

She has worked in the NHS in commissioning and Trust roles, supporting the development of joint commissioning, person-centred services for people with learning disabilities and the involvement of self advocates and family carers.

Alison has worked with health and social services across England on the agenda for change in line with the aims of ‘Valuing People’. She undertook a secondment to the Valuing People Support Team as Regional Adviser for the West Midlands. Alison also advises a local self advocacy organisation and sits on the board of Advance Housing & Support.

Co-director, Foundation for People with Learning Disabilities

 

Barbara leads on consultancy work for the Foundation for People with Learning Disabilities. She joined in 2003 from the Institute for Applied Health and Social Policy, King’s College London.

 

From 1994-2000, she worked at the King’s Fund leading ‘Changing Days’, a national programme to improve opportunities for people with learning disabilities in services and the community.

 

She has also worked in the NHS and Social Services where she specialised in disability, working with both adults and children.

 

Barbara is a Board member of ‘In Control’. She has a BA in Anthropology and Social Work and an MSc in Health and Social Policy.
